Frequently, multiple users want to use a display at the same time, which calls for a mechanism that enables efficient sharing of the screen real estate. Existing approaches either split up the display space according to the number of concurrent users or impose a temporal order of use.
The Software Engineering Lab at Muenster University of Applied Sciences proposes a new approach for visual multiplexing and demultiplexing of information on public displays. The implementation currently supports three to four simultaneous users without reducing the display size and without temporal constraints.
It is based on two components: a tool for generating multiplexed images and a mobile app for demultiplexing these images.
