ma.m5.2 Geschichte und Theorie // Prof. Thorsten Bürklin
Neben einem der wichtigsten Werke Andrea Palladios, der Villa Barbaro in Maser (Treviso), sollen die Studierenden ein Projekt für ein Ausstellungs- und Forschungszentrum entwickeln. Das zur Vefügung stehende Gelände wird gegenwärtig als Parkplatz genutzt. Die Villa Barbaro zeichnet sich durch eine enge Verbindung zwischen Architektur und Territorium aus, was die Verwurzelung des Gebäudes mit dem voralpinen Ort unterstreicht. Zum einen wird man sich daher mit Fragen der Erhaltung eines ikonischen Ortes (eines Kulturdenkmals ersten Ranges) auseinandersetzen. Zum anderen wird das Hinzufügen neuer kultureller Funktionen und das entstehende Verhältnis zwischen Alt und Neu thematisiert. Parallel zur Projektarbeit werden die Studierenden Aspekte der Gebäudeanalyse und der Denkmalpflege kennenlernen. Zudem werden sie notwendige historische und theoretische Grundlagen erarbeiten. Die Villa Barbaro und das Projektgelände sollen während der Exkursionswoche des Sommersemesters besucht werden.
Das Modul ist Teil eines integrativen Moduls. Daher wird die Leistung dieses Moduls im Zusammenhang mit dem Modul ma.m2.2 Entwurf I, angeboten von Armando Dal Fabbro und dem Wahlmodul ma.wm.2 von Manuel Thesing erbracht.

The students are to develop a project for an exhibition and research centre next to one of Andrea Palladio's most important works, the Villa Barbaro in Maser in the province of Treviso. The project site is currently used as a car park. Villa Barbaro is characterised by a close connection between the architecture and the territory, which underlines the building's strong roots in the pre-alpine location. Therefore, on the one hand, the preservation of a highly iconic site (a cultural monument of the first rank) will be addressed. On the other hand, the addition of new cultural functions and the emerging relationship between old and new will be in the center of the students' interest. Parallel to the project work, students will familiarise themselves with aspects of building analysis and heritage conservation. They will also acquire the necessary historical and theoretical foundations.
The Villa Barbaro and the project site will be visited during the excursion week of the summer semester.
The module is part of an integrated module (superstudio), and all deliverables will be submitted and read in conjunction with the module ma.m5.2 History and Theory and the Elective Module ma.wm.2.
