During the summer school, professors of several engineering departments teach, providing an interdisciplinary technical flavour to the following topics:

- Climate and resources
- Wind Energy
- Photovoltaics
- Hydro-Electric Power
- Power Electronics and Smart Grids
- Bio Energy

The side program implies activities that are of technical and cultural interest.

Programme

Admission requirements and credits

To register for this programme you must be an undergraduate student in your last academic year or a master student in the field of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physicists, or similar. Since all courses are taught in English, a level of B2 is required. No previous knowledge of German is neccessary.

The following documents have to be submitted:

  • Transcript of records of your home university
  • Certificate of English profiency (for example letter of language instructor from your university, TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS)

Based on the submitted documents a committee consisting of involved departments and International Office will select the participants.
Admission decisions will be sent via email. So please make sure your contact information in the application is accurate.

Participants of the summer school receive a certificate and 3 ECTS. Recognition must be clarified with the home university. Please note, that attandence is compulsory in order to receive the certificate. 

Fees

The fee for the summer school program is 500.00€.
Students from partner universities receive a discount. Their fee amounts to 250.00€.
The fee for students of FH Münster is 100.00€.

The fee covers course fee, meals during lectures, most costs of the cultural program and a ticket for public transportation system.
It does not cover costs for travel, accommodation and insurance.

After you have been admitted we will send you a confirmation email. With this email, you will get information how to pay your fee.

COVID-19 related information

We prepare the summer school the best possible way so it can take place safely. However, we cannot predict the situation of the pandemic and possible restrictions in September. Therefore, we urgently ask you to provide a correct email address. We will keep all interested students updated about changes in good time.

For example, there might be access restrictions for the university and/or summer school. In that case participation in our summer school might be possible only for students who are either vaccinated, recoverd or tested. The current regulations to the operation/hygiene concept of FH Münster can be found here.
Please contact Jana Hoffmann (summerschoolsfh-muensterde) if you are vaccinated with a vaccine which is not approved in the EU (please check Paul-Ehrlich-Institut).

Please consider this when organizing your travel. Please only book flights, accommodation, etc. that can be cancelled if necessary. FH Münster University of Applied Sciences cannot cover any cancellation costs.

Accommodation
You should start looking for accommodation as soon as possible. There are several fair-priced hostels close to the city center of Münster. Jana Hoffmann will be happy to help you with your search.

Insurance
You are obliged to have appropriate health insurance while living in Germany. We strongly recommend to taking out appropriate liability insurance as well. Citizens of the EU who plan on staying in Germany temporarily can apply for the EU Health Insurance Card in their home country. This card gives you the same health insurance benefits as German citizens.
The DAAD offers combined health, accident and personal liability insurance for students who come to Germany. You'll find informations regarding terms and conditions on the website of the DAAD.

Visa
Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality. If you are a resident of the EU/EEA and return home within 90 days of arrival, you do not need a visa to enter Germany. The same applies to some 40 additional nationalities. Please check with the German Federal Foreign Office (https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de) if you need a visa.

Travel
Transport to Münster must be organized and paid by the participant.
The closest airports to Münster are International Airport Münster/Osnabrück (FMO), Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Düsseldorf Airport (DUS). From the airports, you can travel by bus (FMO) or train (FRA, DUS) to Münster.  

Currency
Germany, like the 18 other countries in the Eurozone, uses the euro as its official currency. For the latest rate, check an online currency converter.

Registration

Registration deadline has expirde. You can ask for short-term participation in the summer school with Ms. Jana Hoffmann from the International Office (summerschoolsfh-muensterde)
